Joining ART/new york and working with Paul Tschinkel provided me with a unique opportunity to interact with many leading artists. Most ART/new york tapes from this period were 30 minutes long and organized around specific themes such as video art, performance art, photography, Pop Art, New Expressionism, and Pattern and Decoration. All in all, between 1981 and 1985 Paul and I completed 17 programs, and I interviewed close to 75 artists.

The target audience was college students although museums also purchased and used the tapes. In those days professors had to bring video monitors and VCR players into the classroom or students had to go to the audiovisual section of the library and request the tapes. Keeping up with changing technology was always a challenge. Paul constantly had to upgrade his camera and editing equipment.

We put a lot of time into each tape and into the choice of which exhibitions to cover. During those years we were constantly attending openings, reading the art press and listening to the buzz. Almost all of the artists that we selected have continued to have significant careers. The tapes have also lived on and are regularly played in museums here and abroad.
